SQL Server command line throws unwanted “d” characters in output

0

I'm running SQL Sever version 14.0.1000.169. When I enter sql statements from the command line, I get the character 'd' in the output -- it looks like it's showing up instead of a space. Here are some examples (scroll to the right in the 1st code block) :

1> sp_databases;
2> go
DATABASE_NAME dDATABASE_SIZEdREMARKS
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------d-------------d--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AdventureWorks2017 d 344064dNULL

-- or this --

1> select top(3) firstname, lastname from person.person;
2> go
firstname dlastname
--------------------------------------------------d--------------------------------------------------
Syed dAbbas
Catherine dAbel
Kim dAbercrombie

Has anyone seen this before? If so, is there a fix?
