use sql or scripting language to do analysis in a database
More of a general question but is it more efficient to write python code to run mathematical analysis or complex queries in sql itself. What is considered best practice.

SQL has a lot of overhead, so I would not want to, say, invert a matrix in SQL. It will be a lot faster to read all the data, then perform the math in python (or any other language), even if your language does not have as many 'array' operations as SQL has.
